What a hashtag will not do
A hashtag only ever collects what guests choose to post publicly, on the platform you picked, with the tag spelled correctly. That is a small and unpredictable share of the photographs actually taken at your wedding, it is gone if a guest's account is private, and none of it comes back at full resolution. Use the hashtag for the public half, and a QR code for the album you actually keep.
Questions people ask
- How do I come up with a wedding hashtag?
- Start from both first names and try three patterns: a blend of the two names, a pun on the shared surname, and a plain statement with the year. Say each one out loud, because the ones that are hard to read are the ones guests misspell.
- Do wedding hashtags actually collect photos?
- Only public posts, only on that platform, and only when spelled correctly. Photos from private accounts never appear, and nothing comes back at original resolution. A hashtag is a nice touch, not a way to collect an album.
- Should the hashtag be short?
- Yes. Guests type it on a phone at a party. Under about twenty characters, no numbers that could be words, and no letter combinations that read as something else.
